As the College grounds begin to show some colour and we head into the new term, second year students are busy revising and preparing themselves for their final exams; the last remaining hurdle standing between them and their chosen university, job or dream apprenticeship. This week, we look back on our year of UCAS applications and celebrate the incredible offers, both conditional and unconditional, that our students have secured.

An impressive total of 477 students made applications through UCAS this year; the busy Careers and Academic Mentor teams supported students every step of the way with their applications to universities up and down the country.

As in many previous years, degrees in Nursing, Paramedic Science and Midwifery were hugely popular choices with St Brendan’s students this year. Through the College’s BioMed group, students have had multiple opportunities to gain work experience placements, attend master classes, meet professionals and head out on trips; thereby making them stand out from the crowd when it came to tackling UCAS!

Meanwhile, those taking on the world of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences (all notoriously competitive degree courses) were fearless in their applications. A total of 14 students applied for courses in these fields, at universities including Bristol, Southampton, Cardiff and Nottingham.

A large group of second years were also keen to secure places at some of the UK’s top ranked universities this year. 25% of all St Brendan’s UCAS applicants have offers from Russell Group Universities; 7 of which have grade-dependent places at Oxford or Cambridge.

As second year students head into the final few months of life as a St Brendan’s student, we wish them the very best of luck in their final exams and look forward to celebrating with them on A-level Results Day!
