Our BTEC Level 3 Sports students were joined by UEFA B Licenced Coach Jack Richardson last week. Jack is also a Degree Mentor on the Bristol Rovers Community Trust’s BSc (Hons) Degree in Sports Coaching and Development, and so came to talk all things sport and football!

Jack shared information on the two-year Foundation Degree and three-year full BSc (Hons) Degree that St Brendan’s students could go on to study if they wanted to kick start their profession in the sports industry. The programmes are run in partnership with the University of South Wales (USW) and include online lectures, practical sessions and tutorials from USW Academic Teaching staff, as well as 1:1 mentoring and support from Bristol Rovers Academic and English Football League Trust (EFL) staff.

Jack was joined by two students who are currently studying for the Degree and we were delighted to see a familiar face – Will, a former St Brendan’s student! Will joined St Brendan’s in September 2020 and graduated last summer and he shared details about his journey at College and beyond. He started at St Brendan’s not knowing what he’d like to do after Year 13 and so followed his passions and completed an A-level in Photography and a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport (equivalent to two A-levels).

Will began to shape his future at St Brendan’s the moment he joined and in his second year found out about the Bristol Rovers Higher Education programme during their visit to our Brislington campus. He is now furthering his knowledge in the world of sport and football and excelling on the Foundation Degree at Bristol Rovers. It was great that he was able to share his journey with our current students and we look forward to seeing him progress at Bristol Rovers and into a career in Sports Coaching and Management.
