Last Friday, a group of Chemistry Students were visited by a very interesting St Brendan’s graduate.
Doug Barnes
Delivering a talk entitled ‘How I got Paid to Play’, Doug Barnes discussed a range of exciting topics, from capturing CO², to life at University. Doug embarked upon a career within the Physical Organic Chemistry industry after leaving St Brendan’s; going on to study Chemistry at Leeds University and then carrying out a PhD in Organic Chemistry. Doug now enjoys his work as a passionate Research and Development Chemist for C-Capture; a company which aims to develop a new ‘clean energy’ technology through decarbonisation, without making it prohibitively expensive to the consumer. Doug wasn’t able to share some information about his work and experiments with the class as it was top secret! He did however tell the students that the exciting developments will be publically released on the 19th June.
