16th March 2015

St Brendan’s hosted its first inter-school basketball tournament on Wednesday 11th March and we welcomed teams from St Gregory’s, Redland Green School and Colston’s to the college.

It was a great showcase of the basketball talents that all schools have in their squads. In a playing format of just 7 minute games and each school playing each other twice, the matches were high octane and fast paced.

The tournament was played in an excellent spirit of sportsmanship with a great atmosphere in the hall as supporters came to watch and enjoy the basketball. All the games were tight and competitive with the stand out schools being Colston’s and St Brendan’s.

They had both beaten each other once and so it came down to the last match between St Brendan’s and St Gregory’s for the tournament to be decided. St Brendan’s pulled ahead playing strongly, then St Gregory’s came back into the match and it 12 – 10 with 90 seconds to go. St Gregory’s then snatched a 2 pointer and with the match at 12 -12 lefts Brendan’s with 30 seconds to find the winning hoop.

However, it wasn’t to be and Colston’s emerged as the tournament winners. It was a great afternoon of basketball we very much look forward to hosting the tournament again next year.
