There was toe-tapping, laughing, shouting and great deal of clapping echoing from the College theatre this week, as A-level Drama and Theatre students and BTEC Acting students took to the stage with Showcase: an evening of variety performance.

West Side Story

Telling the story of two young idealistic lovers on the warring streets of New York, the A-level cast of 20 captivated their audience perfectly with their extracts of West Side Story. As the classic story of hate, violence, prejudice and love unfolded onstage, the students bowed to a magnificent round of applause from their sell-out audience.

Following a short interval, it was over to the 17 BTEC Acting students, offering a showcase of uplifting performances. Compares Alex and Rosie brought the jokes and wit throughout, whilst students performed a range of songs including ‘The Greatest Show’ and Elton John classics. Short sketches which had the audience in stiches were scattered throughout and students even took on the challenge of telling the entire Harry Potter story within one song!

A huge congratulations to all of the students on their outstanding performances, as the final guest left and the theatre lights were switched off, there was an overwhelming well-deserved sense of accomplishment that swept the cast.
