The Science Department welcomed some very busy visitors recently, as they introduced their classes to a hive of bees!

The Bees!

The Bees!

The department was excited to get a tank of white-tailed bumble bees, which are proving hugely popular with St Brendan’s scientists. The bees are native to the UK and are sold for pollinating fruit crops; it doesn’t take long to spot the large Queen of the tank, who watches over her workers tending the nest. The bees will be released to roam the grassy areas South of Bath. Spot them in the countryside – look out for their distinctive bright white tail. Before they are released, you can pay them a visit in Laboratory B214.
