A large group of motivated students gathered in the conference room this week, all ready to learn more about mentoring.

A team challenge

The students; a mixture of both first and second years, enjoyed a full days training from Carol and Jen, two coaching experts from CoachBright; an award-winning national organisation which supports the next generation in becoming both independent and resilient.

The inspirational pair worked with the students throughout the day to help them develop the skills needed to mentor younger children. Students got involved in some challenging games (including making a paper giraffe in teams in silence), thought about what coaching really is and discussed the theories behind it. With members of the group wanting to go into careers within sports, languages, politics and public services, the skills learnt will help them all with their future destinations, as well as developing their CVs!

Now even more inspired and passionate about practicing their new skills, students will now head over to local Cotham School to work with their year 7s; a relationship which will have benefits for both St Brendan’s and Cotham pupils!
