I started at St Brendan's in 2008 and I studied English Literature and Language, Law, Psychology and Religious Studies at A level. Although it involved a long coach journey each day the change of pace from my secondary school was worth it. Attending St Brendan's was absolutely the right choice for me, it was a change of scene from previous school and, having not studied as hard as I should have for my GCSEs and not doing as well as I'd have liked, it granted me a fresh start to be a better student.
I felt encouraged to take responsibility for my own studies but with easy access to support as and when it was needed. I found that we were treated as young adults instead of school children and it really helped me take my work more seriously and ultimately try harder. The library was fantastic and provided plenty of space and resources to catch up on work or homework. In more than one of my subjects I was advised to use both online and library resources which is a skill I used frequently since leaving St. Brendan's.
Since leaving St Brendan's I took a year out and was supported in this decision which surprised me. I expected to be told what a mistake and waste of time it would be but my tutor was really helpful and encouraged me to do what was best for me not just what everyone else was doing. She only suggested I think it through carefully before making my mind up and do what was best for me. After my year out, I went to the University of the West of England and have since graduate with a first class honours degree in Law. Naturally having studied it at A level I found some parts of my degree nice and easy as I'd covered certain topics before! I am currently studying on the Legal Practice Course, also at UWE, with the aim of either becoming a solicitor or applying for the graduate programme within the police.
