Our Careers team work hard throughout the year to support all of our students with their next steps be it university, apprenticeship or employment. To celebrate National Careers Week earlier this month our students had a pool of amazing opportunities to dive into, one of which was the Get Work Ready event hosted by the BT Group for those interested in all things digital, tech, cyber and social media.

During the day our students worked on their communication skills, had the space to be creative, learnt that collaboration is key, and having an open-mind brings about innovation.

They began with an exclusive tour of the new BT Group regional HQ in Bristol. Next up was a session on VR cyber security where our students were asked to guess how many companies are hacked each day - they were blown away by the actual number! They were also challenged to identify the range of security threats both physical and online that offices face. The exploration of tech support concluded with a workshop on fibre optics.

After this the focus shifted to media and it was time to get in front of the mics to create a podcast. They interviewed staff at BT and STEM teachers who also attended the day. These interviews were also filmed, so our students got to observe the vast range of the roles that collaborate to create a single production.

We caught up with three of the student attendees, Ben, Ben and Sam, who told us they would really recommend work experience to other students as they found it super eye-opening and got to learn loads of skills. They had a production company following them for the day, recording what they got up to and this will soon go live on BT’s website and YouTube channel so keep an eye out for our Media stars!
