As the big day quickly approaches, people across the city are busy joining the crowds and queues in shops and exchanging Christmas gifts; but what about families who have no presents to unwrap this festive season?
Students with hamper
Staff and students at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College have put together over 30 large festive hampers to support those families with young children and teenagers, the elderly, homeless and housebound across Bristol.
This year the Brislington College worked in conjunction with the St Vincent De Paul Society in Bedminster and a local primary school to ensure families who have very little, enjoy a special surprise this Christmas. Hampers were filled with food, treats, toys, games and clothes and were made specifically with each family in mind. In addition, food, clothes, blankets and sleeping bags were also donated to the Julian Trust and Borderlands to support homeless people across the city and a range of tasty treats were collected for Youth Moves – a charity which makes a huge difference to the lives of young people within South Bristol.
The College was supported by two local companies this year, Oakwood Communications Agency on Park Street, and an anonymous Bristol-based business, who both donated a huge range of toys which were added to hampers being delivered to family homes across the City.
Michael Jaffrain, Principal at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, said “The College is delighted to be able to come together to support the local community through the hamper project, it is a really humbling, whole college effort involving the students, teachers and support staff. As well as spending time with loved ones this season, it is important to remember those who have very little and we are so glad that we are able to spread festive cheer to those who need support the most. I am always so proud of the St Brendan’s community, who manage to pull together incredibly generous hampers which will hopefully make Christmas special for those who receive them.”
