Introduction
We are delighted to be able to offer students the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold award at St Brendan’s. The award is open to any student at the college regardless of whether you have completed other DofE awards.
The DofE awards allow students to show the ability to lead, persevere and work as part of a team, attributes that universities and employers highly value.
The DofE award is split into 5 sections at Gold level:
- Volunteering section: 12 months
- Physical and Skills sections: One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months
- Expedition section: 4 days/3 nights (assessed expedition has additional acclimatisation day)
- Residential section: Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights.
If you didn’t do Silver, you must undertake a further 6 months in either the volunteering or the longer of the physical or skills sections.
Check out the presentation below and the pages in the menu on the left for more information about the DofE, why you should get involved, and how to register. You can also read more about the award and its components on the DofE website.

"I had completed both Bronze and Silver at my previous senior school, however my experience of Gold with St Brendan’s was probably both the most enjoyable and the most challenging."
Daisy completed her Gold award in June 2020. Read more about past students' success completing the Duke of Edinburgh's award here.
